If interested in filming Downtown, first contact the City of Santa Monica film permits office at 310-458-8737.
Major productions are not allowed on Wednesdays due to the Farmers’ Market or on Saturdays and Sundays due to the high volume of shopping traffic. However, low-impact, small productions – man-on-the-street interviews and still photo shoots – will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

In addition, proof of insurance is required to film in Downtown Santa Monica.
| | • | The City form "Certificate of Insurance" should be used. If the form cannot be used, then the City will accept the standard "Acord" form with an additionally insured endorsement including the following wording:
Downtown Santa Monica, Inc., board, officers, director, staff, property owners and merchants, the City of Santa Monica, members of its City Council, boards and commissions, officers, agents, employees and volunteers.
| | | • | Coverage afforded applies as primary and not excess or contributing to any insurance issued in the name of the City.
| | | • | 30 days written notice of cancellation or reduction of coverage or limits is required.
| | | • | All coverages must be $1 million.
